On/Off:Press and release button. 

Modes (Low/Med/High/Red): Within 8 seconds of turning on, push and release button. After 8 seconds the next button press will turn the lantern off. 

Twist off the base of the lantern and insert 4 C cell batteries of the same voltage and brand. 

If storing the lantern for extended period, remove batteries and store in a dry, protected place.
